Major General Christian-Brejner Ishøj

Major General Christian Brejner Ishøj serves as Commander of the Joint Analysis, Training and Education Centre (JATEC) in Bydgoszcz, Poland from July 2026. His distinguished military career in the Danish Defence is combined with extensive leadership experience across operational command, defence planning, capability management, logistics, and international operations.

Major General Ishøj began his military career in 1992 as a conscript and sergeant with the Marine Company at Bornholm Garrison. He later served in a range of command and staff appointments, including platoon commander and squadron commander in reconnaissance units, staff officer positions within Defence Command Denmark, and Chief of Staff and Acting Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion, The 1^st Royal Life Guards.

His career includes significant experience in defence acquisition and capability development. From 2015, he held senior leadership positions in the Danish Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation, including Head of Coordination Division, Head of Land Capability Management, and Deputy Director General. Since 2023 until assuming current duties, he served as the Chief of Staff for Joint Operations.

Major General Ishøj has also served in several international missions and assignments, including deployments to Albania, Iraq, Afghanistan, and the United States. His operational experience includes service as Commanding Officer of Rebuilding Unit Denmark in Iraq, J3/J5 Staff Officer at a British-led Task Force Headquarters in Afghanistan, Deputy Commander of the Danish Liaison Element at U.S. Central Command in Tampa, and Chief of Staff for DANCON ISAF 15 in Afghanistan.

He completed officer education at the Royal Danish Army Academy and attended the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, USA. Major General Ishøj’s decorations include, among others, the Knight of the Order of Dannebrog, two medals for Meritorious Service, and the Medal of the Minister of Defence for Exceptional Service.

Major General Christian Brejner Ishøj is married and has three kids. He is passionate about sports and enjoys cycling, running and Cross Fit.
